Cycle count
Counting a small part of your stock on a regular schedule instead of all at once.
A cycle count is counting a small part of your inventory on a regular schedule instead of shutting down for a full physical inventory.
Why cycle counting works
A full count is disruptive and often inaccurate, because teams rush it. Cycle counting spreads the same work across the year in short, finishable slices: one aisle, one category, or one group of items at a time. Errors surface in days rather than months.
A simple cadence
- High-value or fast-moving items: weekly.
- Steady sellers: monthly.
- Slow movers: quarterly.
Count the real quantity, then post the difference so the system matches the floor. Use ABC analysis to decide what to count most often.
